The National Fishing Lure Collectors Club (NFLCC) is a non-profit, educational, international organization founded in 1976. The primary objectives of the NFLCC are to foster an awareness of fishing tackle collecting as a hobby and to assist members in the location, identification, and trading of vintage fishing-related equipment.

Bulletin Board

This bulletin board is provided as a public forum for announcements, messages, questions, chat or almost anything else you can think of related to antique fishing tackle. Girlfriend looking to start (surprise) collection for boyfriend -- HELP!

Amelia B Dixon	Hey y'all, I am looking to start a collection for my boyfriend. My stepfather has a wonderful collection that is displayed in beautiful shadow boxes, and I'd love to have the same for my boyfriend. I was wondering the best way to approach starting a new collection. I'm sure that he would have his preferences, but I wanted this to be a surprise, and I'd like to be able to add to it spontaneously, etc. He primarily fishes the lakes of Western North Carolina for smallmouth bass. Although, he does fly fish sometimes. What do you think would be a good starter? Your help is immensely important and appreciated. Thank you, Amelia

Steve Johnson	Just a thought, how about getting him one of those beautiful display boxes. Then the two of you can go to a lure show and decide together what he'd like to put in it. Good luck!

Larry Huffman	Many collectors enjoy lures made in their area or state. Some will pick a lure and then collect all the colors and sizes of that lure that they can find. Other collectors pick a particular color and collect all the lures they can find in that color. There is a hundred different reasons a person collects what they do. And why they find a passion for collecting what they do. I would say to also ask your stepfather for suggestions on which lures to buy for your boyfriend also. Just to see what his opinion might be. Take your time deciding. Look for lures in like new condition with minor or no defects or damage to them. If he decides to trade or sell them to buy a different style later, he will be able to if in new condition vs one with scratches or damage. It might be a good idea to take your boyfriend to a "lure show" so he can see in hand a type or style he really appreciates. But then it wouldnt be a surprise. But later ones you buy to add to his collection could be a "surprise". ?? Good luck and have fun ! Thats why most of us collect.
