I have a Tempter Bass Bait Co. Handpainted weedless frog in its Original box with paperwork. I'm looking for information on this bait. Such as, is every one of these baits different because of being hand painted? Most articles I read say that the legs are usually gone. Are they detachable are they supposed to be connected? On one site online I see the legs tied into the hook with line/thread? I've been told the box is worth more than the lure itself? How about a value on it if I decided to sell? Which I may, because I'm a minnow guy myself. I really have no other frogs nor a desire to keep truthfully. Any help would be more than greatly appreciated. Feel free to shoot me some offers, but know I'm trying to gain knowledge in this piece as well for my own being. Thanks!

Hi John, the legs of your frog should be connected to the body with string. It appears as though one of the legs on your example has become detached? If that is so in my opinion that would hurt the value considerably. The bottom example that shows the legs tied together around the hook is how they came New out of the box. If you read the instructions on the paperwork it says before using the frog to bend the legs right up to the head. Although I certainly wouldn't recommend this with a collectors piece it was done so that the legs would move freely causing more action when retrieved with a stop and go motion. it is a very nice example especially if both legs are still attached. (I may not be seeing it correctly. Hope I am wrong.) I am including a photo of my boxed musky example as well as a couple of different patterned bass sizes.

Nice bait. Patented in the early 1930s, hand painted. The box is the later of the two types that are known. I'd ballpark your combo here at $500-700.

Good luck with it.
