For those of you who are not members of the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club, I’d like to mention what you missed in the March issue of the Gazette. For starters, you didn’t get to read “The Rhodes of Kalamazoo” by Bill Sonnett. Bill highlighted the features of early underwater minnows manufactured by Rhodes. In addition, Bill presented a number of photos of the Rhodes family—photos that were shared with the public for the first time. Club members were also treated to another article on metal lures of the New York Finger Lakes by Todd Larson. “The Two Lives of the Herendeen Spoon” chronicles the development of this fish-catching and now collectible spoon. First-time contributor to the Gazette Russ Christianson tells the story of several generations of the McLeod family and the salmon flies they developed in the Pacific Northwest. And finally, former editor of the Gazette and author Larry Smith presented a synopsis of the lures of William Jamison, including his famous Coaxer. There was a glimpse of the fantastic items offered by Lang’s in their auction next month and a profile of club member Gabby Talkington. NFLCC club members benefit from well-researched and entertaining articles in our quarterly publication. In addition, they receive copies of the bi-annual NFLCC Magazine, a periodical that features superb photography and quality writing. If you are not a member of the NFLCC…perhaps you should be.
