It was recently brought to my attention by an NFLCC member that another NFLCC member had offered for sale a Heddon wood box that was suspected by many to be a fake that was solely manufactured to deceive potential buyers. Fraud is a broad term that refers to a variety of offenses involving dishonesty or "fraudulent acts". In essence, fraud is the intentional deception of a person or entity by another made for monetary or personal gain. I called the NFLCC member in possession of the boxes and advised him of possible repercussions of a club member selling items that are known to be fake and passing them off as authentic. I then sent an e-mail message so that there was an electronic record. The NFLCC Member handled it like a true champ and is taking his loss and sent me the photo you see here of the two destroyed Heddon boxes. I am so pleased with how quickly the member handled this situation to the satisfaction of myself and the Regional VP. How would you have handled it? ![]() |

A big Thank you to all involved on your efforts for protecting our hobby! Just one thought. Wouldn't this be a good start and forum for a training (teaching) aid on identifying factors to look for prior to such destruction, especially for those new to collecting or not their main area of expertise? I dont collect heddon and have learned a few things in the past 25 yrs, although, I learn someting new everyday. Copies, fakes/ forgeries are being made for everything now due to the $$$$ factor and realize that it is buyer beware...I would rather eliminate my risk through knowledge prior to parting with hard earned money. |
