Hi everyone,
I recently received these lures as a gift and was told they are moonlight trout-eat-us lures. I'm kinda skeptical about that I couldnt find any information on the ones I have here. They are all different in length and body size even the ones that look similar vary from one another slightly. I was wondering if any of you experts could give ID these guys or give me any information on them, I am very curious about them. Thank you!

Oh man! That's a lot of books. Thank you for the help Scott I really appreciate it. I must say though if your reference collection is that great your lure collection must be a jaw dropper. I will be looking into some of the books you mentioned. I am still a true beginner collector I started collecting maybe two years ago just buying old lures at flea markets because I thought they looked interesting and told a great history of fishing. I have only recently started to try and ID them and learn their history. I can really see a passion coming out of lure collecting. Thank you again for sharing some of your knowledge with me.

Thanks Ronald. For a single volume overview of just lures I like Luckey's (the editions before Lewis got involved), Karl White's, and Murphy's 2 volume set. I don't mean to offend anyone, but there's lots of errors in Lewis' contributions. Lewis also issued his own 5 volume set on modern tackle makers, and there is alot of good info scattered around the 5 volumes, but unfortunately its organized in such a fragmented way, its difficult to find what you're looking for. The piece de resistance for the serious small & mid size lure maker aficionado is for sure Slade's 19 volume set. A set will cost $300+, but absolutely worth it in my opinion. I spend the majority of my research time buried in these books.

There are lots of outstanding specialized books...by maker (several Heddon, CCBCO, South Bend, etc) , by state (OH, MI, FL, WI, LA, etc), by lure type (Rotary Heads, River Minnows, 19th Century, etc). They are all invaluable as reference for the historical & contextual information they provide. There's also old Lang's, Oliver's, Salmo, Morphy, etc auction catalogs with prices realized sheets that can serve as a great reference.

I also keep all the NFLCC Magazines & Gazettes as there are an abundance of fantastic articles spanning many different lure makers & subjects. The 2nd phase of the new NFLCC website will contain an alphabetical index to these articles. I also keep FATC and CAFTA newsletters for good info on Florida & Canada lures.

Sorry for the long-winded reply, but I hope that helped. I posted some pics of most of my lure reference library. Good luck finding some good ones in the future!

Thank you for your knowledge Scott! Your reply does bring up another good point I would like to ask the more experienced collectors. I was wondering what reference books you would recommend I get as a beginner and novice collector. I don't prefer any one lure company I enjoy learning about them all however I do really like Heddon and Creek Chub, but who doesn't. The only book I have is Old Fishing Lures & Tackle by Luckey and Lewis.

Hi Ronald, thanks for posting these. You have a few Eppinger Peanut & Wobbler types among a couple of other possible MI maker(s). Check Oravec, Fritz, & Peters. I can say for certain that none of these are related to the Moonlight Bait Co in any way.
