The National Fishing Lure Collectors Club (NFLCC) is a non-profit, educational, international organization founded in 1976. The primary objectives of the NFLCC are to foster an awareness of fishing tackle collecting as a hobby and to assist members in the location, identification, and trading of vintage fishing-related equipment.
Bulletin Board
This bulletin board is provided as a public forum for announcements, messages, questions, chat or almost anything else you can think of related to antique fishing tackle. Instant Bass lure

I recently bought an old tackle box at an estate sale. Included in the box was the Instant Bass lure pictured below. The lure was clearly wooden, and marked Instant Bass, but Google searches disclose only that it may have been made in Maud, Oklahoma in the 40s or 50s. Can anybody tell me anything more about this lure or its maker, or a value?

According to Robert Slade's book, "The Encyclopedia of Old Fishing Lures Made in North America - Vol. 8", the Instant Bass lure was made by Instant Lures, Inc. and later under the name Appeal Lures, both of Maud, Oklahoma. There are 2 versions, the Instant Bass Jr. (2-1/2") and the Instant Bass Sr. (3") that were made by Instant Lures, Inc. When Appeal Lures made them, it was only called the Instant Bass and came in sizes of 4", 3-3/4" and 2-3/4". They came in 12 colors including one called brown scale which I believe is yours. Some of these were equipped with a tail prop. Slade states "boxed productions by either company name trade in the $15-$35 range. Dates to the 1960's. |
