Taking your old fishing tackle on the plane with you

Hello all, I'm trying to decide whether to drive or fly to The Nationals this year. I've never flown with vintage lures before. I'm curious to know about other members' experiences - both good and bad - who've flown with a carry-on full of old tackle. Has anyone ever been brave enough to transport them in their checked luggage? I don't think I'm that trusting but I'd like to buy a whole lot of stuff at the Nats. Thanks for your opinions.
